The newest Air New Zealand partnership is with Sony Pictures, and together they’ve made a Men in Black airline safety video, merging the secret organization that fights the scum of the universe with the trusted Kiwi airline. For years, Air New Zealand has embraced the fact that they’ve become a tourist destination for those who are fans of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film adaptations by using the director and his big screen versions of J.R.R. Tolkien’s characters for their airline safety videos . Air New Zealand has pulled out the stops for its latest in-flight air safety video, hiring Rip Torn and Frank the Pug from the Men in Black films to star alongside the country’s world championship rugby team.
- Set to the tune of Will Smith’s Men in Black theme song, the video features Richie McCaw, the captain of the New Zealand rugby team — nicknamed the All Blacks — alongside New Zealand Sony Music recording artist Stan Walker, winner of the seventh season of Australian Idol, dancing and rapping about buckling up and switching your phones to airplane mode.
- Buckle up and put your trays in the upright and locked position.
- The video taps into fan excitement ahead of the 2015 Rugby World Cup, which kicks off in England Sept. 18. New Zealand is reigning world champions.
