Intel has invested more than US$60 million in Yuneec International, a Chinese aviation company and drone maker, as the companies strike up a relationship to develop new products. Intel has previously put money into Airware and PrecisionHawk, but the Yuneec deal marks its largest investment in a drone company. The big chip maker and Yuneec Holding Ltd. plan to collaborate on product development, and Intel chips may be incorporated into future Yuneec drones.

  • An Intel spokesman declined to comment further on products that might be developed through the collaboration.
  • Intel Corp., in a new effort to sidestep the declining PC market, said its venture capital arm invested more than $60 million in a Hong Kong company that sells consumer drones.
  • The investment underscores Intel’s growing interest in drones as potential computing platforms using its processors.
