The African American Film Critics Association announced it will commemorate films, actors and filmmakers that have portrayed hip-hop culture in an all-star tribute and concert during its 7th annual awards ceremony. The tribute will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Boyz N the Hood — which starred Ice Cube and Cuba Gooding, Jr. — and New Jack City (Ice-T, Chris Rock, Wesley Snipes). James, who appeared in the summer comedy hit Trainwreck alongside fellow NBA star Amar’e Stoudemire, signed a deal this past month with Warner Bros.
- The AAFCA’s announcement comes on the heels of the box office success of the N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton, which opened to a big $60.2 million debut last weekend and is predicted to take in another $26 million in North America this weekend.
- The awards ceremony will be held at the Taglyan Complex in Los Angeles on Feb. 10, 2016.
